The Castle Golf Club Event for Hollypark

Filed under: Uncategorized — 1hollypark at 7:16 am on Monday, June 13, 2011

On Monday the 30th of May six girls from Hollypark had the honour of representing the school at a golf event.  I took part in the skills challenge along with another 6th class girl. The other four girls played a game of golf against other schools. During the skills challenge, we had 4 professional club golfers teaching us. Hollypark’s golf team did really well. They came 2nd. We received a certificate and some treats at the end of the day. It was a brilliant experience!

My day at Santry

Filed under: Uncategorized — 1hollypark at 7:09 am on Monday, June 13, 2011

On the 1st of June the Santry relay team went to Santry to represent our school Hollypark. We went on a coach to get to the event. We were quite hyper on the way but as soon as we saw the stadium our hearts started to beat faster. As soon as we got off the bus we warmed up. Next, we joined the opening parade of all the schools competing. We held our school banners proudly. We chanted loudly until we had to go back to our teachers. The event started with individual sprint races. I was running in the u12′s relay and my event started when all the individual races were finished. First my relay team had to qualify from our heat. I was running the first leg and I was sick with nerves as I didn’t want to drop the baton. The heat wen t without a hitch and we won with ease! The final was a half hour later and I was even more nervous. The whistle blew and I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. The baton changeover was smooth and I watched as my team finished in 2nd place! I was so proud but sad as it was the last time I would compete for Hollypark. Lot’s of photos were taken and we were presented with our medals.

It’s a day where all the pupils in the school are given a colour like pink, blue, yellow etc. Then all chidren are put into teams by the teacher. All the childern in the school really enjoy this day and think its alot of fun. We play Gealic, basketball, unihoc, ultimate frisbee, and we also do alot of relay sports and do lots of obatacle courses. Everyone from Junior Infants up to 6th class love this day and when 6th leave I am sure we will all miss the day. Normally we ask for sponsorship to help fund raise for the school. This year was a great success. The weather was dry and everyone got a lollipop!

My Day at Santry Athletics Event

Filed under: Uncategorized — 1hollypark at 7:55 am on Friday, June 10, 2011

On Wednesday the 31st of May Hollypark began their trip to Santry to take part in various field  events. It was a great achievment to be able to run against 31 different schools. It was a sunny day so it would be easier to run. As we got off the bus all the girls were chanting  HOLLYPARK!!!!. There were loads of schools there. We went on to the running track for the grand parade to start the day off. We screamed as loud as we could chanting all the Hollypark songs we could think of, as we made our way round the running track. There were lots of  pictures being taken. We made our way off the track and up to our teacher.  As we prepared to warm up we were all so excited for the first events which were shotput,U12′s highjump and U12′s long jump. Julia Buckley was taking part in shotput, Tai Daly took part in highjump and Emma Kiernan was jumping in the long jump. As they all made there way to their events we were all screaming. They all did well in their events. Julia came 3rd throwing the shot 7.38m. Tai Daly came 1st in high jump jumping 1.15m and Emma Kiernan came 2nd in the long jump. Next it was my turn to run in 500m. There were 30 apx girls representing their schools in this race. I made my way on to the track to the starting line. The whistle blew and the race started in a frenzy. I had to work hard to position myself in the top 5. As we turned the last bend I kicked to sprint for a medal…it was exhausting but I managed to finish in 3rd place. It was a great experience and I was proud to represent my school.
